VR Group purchases SeaRail Oy in its entirety

According to its strategy, VR Group emphasizes business in logistics services and purchases Green Cargo AB’s 50 per cent stake in SeaRail Oy. The deal came into force on 1 July 2019. In future, VR Group will own the entire share capital in SeaRail. SeaRail will continue to operate as limited company as a part of VR Transpoint’s road logistics.

VR invests in operational reliability and growth of freight traffic

VR Group has decided to buy 60 new diesel locomotives from Stadler. The value of the transaction is approximately EUR 200 million. The new locomotives will be mainly used in freight traffic. In addition to improving the efficiency of shunting work, they will boost operations on non-electrified railway sections. The new locomotives are also much more environmentally friendly and reliable than the ones currently in use. The new locomotive model acquired by VR will be tailored for the demanding climatic conditions of Finland.

VR Group seeks new growth by establishing a subsidiary in Russia

VR Group is seeking growth from new business by investing in Russian raw wood wagons and establishing a subsidiary in Russia. The wagons will be used for the wood import traffic of Finnish forestry companies. The aim is to have the first wagons in operation at the end of 2019.

New electric locomotives serving freight traffic

VR Group’s Sr3 electric locomotives make it possible to apply new, efficient operating models in freight traffic. The new workhorse with its versatile features has now been operated in, for instance, pulp transport from Metsä Group’s bioproduct mill in Äänekoski to Vuosaari Harbour.

Martti Koskinen to become Acting Director of VR Transpoint

Martti Koskinen, Director of Sales and Marketing at VR Group’s Logistics Division (VR Transpoint), has been appointed Director of VR Transpoint on a temporary basis, effective 5 December. A search process is currently underway for director of the Logistics Division, and the appointment will be announced later. VR Transpoint’s previous director, Rolf Jansson, became CEO of VR Group in October.
